Takeuchi, a leading maker of compact earthmoving equipment, faced a major time-to-market problem as it prepared to launch several new models. Its aging, menu-driven product configurator produced thousands of permutations and frequent errors, required programmers to maintain, and offered no dealer/customer portal for real-time pricing and self-configuration.
Takeuchi implemented Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Experlogix CPQ, moving configurator maintenance to sales and enabling dealers and customers to configure orders through a portal. The change cut order configuration time from about three hours to 10 minutes, reduced errors, put pricing online for 1,000+ daily users, accelerated product launches, and ensured consistent branding across the dealer network.
