Biomass Equipment - Customer Case Study

Biomass Equipment, a paper mill customer, needed help upgrading and expanding its facility with large new biomass equipment, including a generator and turbine. The oversized cargo had to move from Santos, Brazil and Zeebrugge, Belgium to Port Angeles, Washington, creating significant transportation and delivery challenges for the Expeditors Project Cargo team.

Expeditors coordinated a plan to ship the equipment on one vessel as a complete biomass package, consolidate the cargo en route, and manage the complex overland move with route surveys, escorts, and multi-axle trailers. When site delays prevented immediate delivery, Expeditors arranged temporary storage at the Port of Tacoma, avoiding extra handling and trailer demurrage. The project was completed efficiently once the site was ready, and consolidating the shipment saved the customer approximately $200,000 to $300,000.
