The Boring Migrations are Always the Best Migrations

The University of Phoenix, a long-time leader in online education, was facing heavy infrastructure debt, an aging 27,000 square foot data center, and high operating costs. More than 70% of its IT resources were spent keeping the lights on, and its annual electric bill was over $1.7 million. The school needed a way to reduce costs and move away from a stalled migration effort, so it turned to Expedient Enterprise Cloud from Expedient.

Expedient helped the University of Phoenix virtualize existing applications and workloads, starting with one of the hardest workloads first to prove the migration could be done. By the end of the project, the university had reduced owned hardware to 7 servers in a colocation facility, down from a goal of 100. Using Expedient Enterprise Cloud, it cut costs by $50 million over three and a half years and saved over 234,000 hours of labor, which helped improve the experience for over 80,000 students each year.
