Laser manufacturer gains real time information with Expandable

Laser Diagnostic Technologies (LDT), a San Diego medtech company known for the GDx Nerve Fiber Analyzer, needed to ramp up production as demand grew but was hampered by manual spreadsheets and disparate DOS programs that handled bills of materials, ordering, inventory and scheduling separately. This disjointed approach caused redundant data entry, inventory inaccuracies and delays in getting an overall financial and production view — so LDT turned to Expandable Software’s Expandable II integrated ERP system to gain real‑time visibility and streamline operations.

Expandable Software implemented Expandable II in three phases, replacing the old DOS tools with integrated materials management, job scheduling, sales order processing and financial modules. The system now auto-generates purchase orders, tracks outsourced components through production, supports backflushing to keep inventory accurate, and provides component-availability and up‑to‑the‑minute financial/production reports. As a result, inventory levels came under control, redundant re‑entry was eliminated, management gained immediate insight into performance and staffing needs, and the initial materials-management phase was up and running within days — a change LDT calls “a tremendous asset.”
