How OD+ leveraged the Exotec Skypod system to achieve game-changing fulfillment efficiency — all within a space smaller than a football end zone

OD+, a leading Italian distributor of office supplies, faced a significant challenge. A surge in order volumes at their large warehouse prompted a need for a logistics overhaul to service multiple distribution channels while simultaneously streamlining operations and reducing their physical footprint. To address this, they worked with vendor Exotec to implement the Exotec Skypod system, a cutting-edge goods-to-person solution.

The Exotec Skypod system utilizes 43 robots to deliver items directly to three ergonomic picking stations. This solution enabled OD+ to store over 120,000 items in a footprint of just 900 m², an area smaller than a football end zone. The system processes more than 1,000 order lines per hour with just three employees and can retrieve any item in under two minutes, dramatically improving fulfillment efficiency and meeting tight order cut-off times. The modular system was also implemented on schedule in just six months.
