Case Study: Pensacola Fire Department achieves reduced injury risk and improved movement performance with Exos

A Exos Case Study

Preview of the Pensacola Fire Department Case Study

Reducing Injury Risk for Occupational Athletes

The Pensacola Fire Department, facing high injury risk from the strenuous, unpredictable demands of firefighting, worked with Exos to test whether training that emphasizes movement quality could reduce injury risk and improve on-the-job performance. Exos evaluated two 12-week training programs—one focused on movement quality and one more traditional—deploying performance specialists, sport science, and research and analytics.

Exos’ movement-focused program produced clear gains: firefighters in the movement-training group improved on 81% of traditional fitness markers and improved movement performance on 100% of job-related tasks, while firefighters in the non-movement program experienced negative movement changes on 80% of job-related tasks. These results show Exos’ movement-based approach measurably enhanced functional performance and reduced factors associated with injury risk.
