Case Study: U.S. Navy achieves improved physical readiness and 12.7% movement-score gains with Exos

Preview of the U.S. Navy Case Study

How the Navy Is Improving Sailors’ Physical Fitness

The U.S. Navy partnered with Exos to move beyond conventional physical training and address limited movement variety, overuse injuries, and poor body composition. Faced with varying operational platforms, space and equipment constraints, and limited time, the Navy sought a methodology to improve movement quality and overall readiness; the program rollout was followed by a 12‑week study at Indiana University to validate effectiveness.

Exos delivered the Navy Operational Fitness and Fueling System—combining tactical performance training, performance capabilities assessments, and nutrition coaching—which produced measurable gains: a 12.7% improvement in Functional Movement Screen scores, a 2.4% reduction in waist circumference compared with increases under conventional training, 425,000 sailors impacted since March 2012, and 5,000 command fitness leaders and assistants trained.
