Case Study: National Grid achieves subsurface certainty for a Rotterdam substation expansion with Exodigo

A Exodigo Case Study

National Grid identifies 20 unknown utilities with Exodigo

National Grid faced the challenge of expanding a 69kV substation in a complex, energized environment where no usable utility records existed. A known service line was lost and could not be found, and the high-voltage infrastructure made traditional locating methods like GPR unreliable. They partnered with Exodigo to use its non-intrusive multi-sensor scanning and AI-powered data processing to map the subsurface.

Exodigo’s solution successfully located the lost service line and identified 20 previously unknown utility lines. This provided National Grid with a complete, verified subsurface model, enabling confident expansion planning and significantly reducing construction risk. The project captured over 500 GB of data per acre without any ground disturbance to the live site.
