Case Study: Granite Construction achieves verified utility mapping and fewer strike risks with Exodigo

A Exodigo Case Study

Granite Construction maps 28 utilities with Exodigo

Granite Construction, working with Caltrans on an active I-70 widening project, faced repeated utility strikes and costly change orders despite multiple traditional surveys. Existing records were incomplete, and conventional methods like potholing had failed, leaving the project at high risk for delays and rework in an active highway corridor. They brought in Exodigo to utilize its non-intrusive subsurface scanning service to map what other methods kept missing.

Exodigo conducted a multi-sensor scan of a high-risk easement, processing the data with AI to create a Composite Utility Map with precise positioning. The solution provided by Exodigo identified 28 utilities, which was 2.5 times more than prior surveys had found and included 17 previously unaccounted lines. This gave Granite and Caltrans a verified, engineering-grade dataset to confidently redesign against, significantly reducing active-corridor risk and the potential for millions of dollars in delay-related change orders.
