Exinda Tops Packeteer with Scalability & Reporting

Ryerson University, a large Toronto-based institution with about 25,000 students and extensive continuing-education enrollment, needed predictable access to critical network applications (learning management, registration, email, VoIP) as wireless and campus traffic grew. Their existing packet‑shaping appliance couldn’t keep up after a bandwidth upgrade (it topped out at ~600 Mbps), P2P/recreational traffic was consuming large portions of the pipe, and reporting was insufficient for management.

Ryerson trialed and deployed an Exinda 8000 Series appliance (later upgraded to the 10000 Series), putting it inline in transparent mode and using policy controls to throttle P2P and prioritize core services; P2P traffic dropped from ~200 Mbps to ~30 Mbps within minutes. The solution delivered scalable traffic management (now supporting 10 Gbps), flexible policies, a much-improved dashboard and reporting for management, and potential caching to reduce server load—resulting in more predictable access and better utilization of network capacity.
