Exinda moves umass Dartmouth to top of the class with 24/7 network that balances academic, administration and social functions

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, a 700-acre public campus with more than 9,000 students and nearly 4,500 live-in residents each fall, was challenged by rising device use and high-bandwidth applications while having limited access to multi‑gig fiber. With a single 600 Mbps Comcast link and seven satellite sites, the university’s legacy packet‑shaping technology couldn’t scale or give the visibility needed to protect critical ERP and academic systems during peak campus usage.

UMass Dartmouth deployed Exinda 8760 appliances (2.5 Gbps) to gain application visibility and enforce dynamic policies—prioritizing ERP and faculty learning apps from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and opening the pipe for students in the evening. The solution exposed previously unclassified traffic, let administrators curb bandwidth-hungry streaming (e.g., Netflix/Hulu), provided graphical reporting to spot issues proactively, and preserved daytime productivity while allowing near-full utilization during nightly peaks (around 580 Mbps), with scalability for future bandwidth growth.
