Case Study: MLB Network reduces network utilization from 98% to 60% with Exinda 8760 WAN Optimization

A Exinda Case Study

Preview of the MLB Network Case Study

Exinda hits grand slam with MLB Network and brings network utilization from 98% down to 60%

MLB Network, the 24/7 national cable channel for Major League Baseball, was struggling with severe internal network congestion as thousands of users and heavy video and statistics workflows saturated its dual 45 Mbps links. With real-time game captures, studio production and the in-house DIAMOND asset system all competing for bandwidth—peaking at 98% router utilization—IT needed a fast, reliable way to prevent traffic overloads during critical events like the First-Year Player Draft.

MLB deployed Exinda 8760 WAN optimization appliances, installed and configured in three days, which delivered full traffic visibility, application-level control and policy-based prioritization (e.g., DIAMOND, broadcast LAN, statistics feeds). By throttling nonessential flows and guaranteeing critical apps, Exinda cut network utilization from 98% to about 60%—a one-third reduction—while enabling rate-limiting and future-proofing for an upcoming OC-3 upgrade.
