Outdoor Cap Company Boosts Warehouse Performance

Outdoor Cap Company, a Bentonville, Ark.–based headwear manufacturer and distributor serving about 14,000 customers and holding licenses for more than 100 organizations, struggled with complex multi-warehouse distribution after sourcing goods from Asia through the Port of Long Beach. With three regional warehouses (Rancho Cucamonga, Dallas and Bentonville), the company lacked an audit trail for cross-docking and relied on manual processes for EDI and shipping, leading to errors, slow transfers and unpredictable freight costs.

Outdoor Cap implemented Simparel’s warehouse management system, integrated ConnectShip rate-shopping and CubiScan dimensioning, and automated EDI workflows. The changes created auditable cross-docking, cut transfer time by roughly 20%, enabled dedicated carrier contracts with about 20% freight savings, allowed substitution of lower-cost ground pricing for many LTL shipments, tripled EDI customers while reducing staffing needs, and reduced packing errors and vendor chargebacks—speeding product to the sales floor.
