Modernizing User Experience For A Leading Auction Platform

Excellarate worked with Leading Auction Platform, an online marketplace and auctions business serving buyers and sellers across more than fifteen categories, including collector cars, real estate, antiques, firearms, and heavy equipment. The customer’s challenge was modernizing a tightly coupled legacy ecosystem built on classic ASP and supported by four development teams, while also increasing design sensitivity and evangelizing UX across the organization.

Excellarate addressed this by using a strangler-pattern approach for incremental modernization, running UX workshops with stakeholders, building user personas, and using A/B testing and research to guide design decisions. This helped establish trust, improve consistency across products, and create a more data-backed UX approach. The impact was strong: the mobile-first UI modernization drove 2X growth in website traffic, organic search, and revenue, and the customer’s highest monthly online sales reached $80M in December 2019, up from $59.94M the year before.
