Mayfield Electric & Water Systems Increases Customer Satisfaction and Lowers Financial Risks with Exceleron’s MyUsage

Mayfield Electric & Water Systems (MEWS), a publicly owned utility in Kentucky, was struggling with very high deposit requirements for renters and new customers, which upset the community while still leaving the utility exposed to financial risk from unpaid balances. To address this, MEWS looked for a prepay alternative and chose Exceleron’s MyUsage Prepay solution.

Exceleron implemented MyUsage as a hosted, web-based prepay program integrated with MEWS’s existing systems, allowing customers to pay in advance, monitor usage, and avoid deposits. The results included higher customer satisfaction, better budgeting and usage awareness for customers, about $20,000 less in annual charge-offs, lower bad debt and write-offs, and recovery of several thousand dollars in past-due debt.
