Indiana State University saves hours grading 100-item anatomy exams with ExamSoft

Indiana State University's anatomy lab course faced a significant grading challenge as enrollment grew. Instructors, like Heather M. Adams, were overwhelmed grading hundreds of paper exams for multiple sections, which made providing meaningful feedback and tracking common issues difficult. They needed a portable digital assessment solution that could work offline for their station-based exams with anatomical models. The university turned to the vendor ExamSoft and its Examplify application for iPad.

ExamSoft provided a digital assessment platform that allowed for offline exams on iPads, complete device control, and flexible question formatting. The solution enabled instructors to grade efficiently by reviewing compiled answer lists anonymously, ensuring equity, and to provide detailed Strength & Opportunities Reports to students. Using ExamSoft's tagging features, instructors could also identify curriculum areas needing improvement. The implementation saved substantial grading time and improved the fairness and depth of feedback.
