YCCD Selects ExaGrid Over ‘Name Brand’ for Faster Backups in Virtualized Environment

Yuba Community College District (YCCD), which serves multiple campuses across rural northern California, found its legacy tape library unable to keep up with a nearly fully virtualized environment. Backups were too slow to complete, putting increasing data growth and disaster recovery at risk, so the district sought a faster, more scalable and easier-to-manage solution.

YCCD deployed a two-site ExaGrid scale-out disk backup system integrated with Veeam, using Veeam’s source-side deduplication plus ExaGrid’s zone-level dedupe to minimize network traffic and storage. The result: much faster, more consistent backups (some incrementals complete in under 15 minutes), roughly 10:1 deduplication on ExaGrid, reliable offsite replication and simpler scalability and support for future growth.
