A ExaGrid Case Study
The Washington School Information Processing Cooperative (WSIPC) is a public nonprofit serving 279 school districts and nine Educational Service Districts in Washington, supporting about 715,000 students. Facing nearly 50% annual data growth, WSIPC’s tape-based backups had stretched to almost 24 hours nightly, leaving little time for restores or maintenance and prompting a search for a faster, scalable disk-based solution.
WSIPC chose ExaGrid over EMC Data Domain for its post-process deduplication, cost-effectiveness and scalability, deploying two ExaGrid systems (primary and secondary) that replicate nightly and integrate with HP Data Protector. The solution delivers a 48:1 deduplication ratio, sends only changed data across the WAN, cut backup windows from ~24 hours to six hours, is easy to install/manage, and provides GRID-based scalability for future growth.
