Wilmington Medical Supply Improves Backups and Disaster Recovery Capabilities with ExaGrid

Wilmington Medical Supply, a 40-employee durable medical supply company based in Wilmington, NC, was struggling with tape-based backups that took nearly 12 hours, frequently failed (about 75% accuracy), and left the company vulnerable to disasters in its hurricane-prone datacenter. Concerned about unreliable restores and the inability to recover quickly from a site outage, IT leadership sought a disk-based alternative.

The company deployed a two-site ExaGrid disk backup system with post-process deduplication (one appliance in Wilmington and one in Georgia) that integrates with Symantec Backup Exec and replicates data between sites. As a result, backup windows have been cut in half, nightly jobs now complete reliably, stored data is reduced by a 40:1 deduplication ratio, and the team can restore operations at the secondary site within a couple of hours, greatly improving disaster recovery confidence.
