A ExaGrid Case Study
VW Credit, Inc., the U.S. captive finance arm for Volkswagen, Audi and Bentley, was struggling with long backup windows—about 180 GB of daily backups and 15 TB weekly, with full backups sometimes taking beyond 72 hours—and wanted to move off tape. After testing ExaGrid and Data Domain, they chose ExaGrid for its post-process deduplication, simplicity and better price/performance.
VW Credit deployed ExaGrid in a five-site hub-and-spoke configuration alongside Symantec NetBackup, which nearly eliminated tape use and cut some backup jobs by as much as 75%. Restores became much faster, deduplication averaged about 10:1 (reducing storage needs significantly), setup and support were straightforward, and the GRID architecture provides easy scalability for future growth.
