A ExaGrid Case Study
Vermont State Employees Credit Union (VSECU), a Montpelier-based not‑for‑profit financial cooperative serving Vermont residents and state employees, was struggling with backups because its tape library couldn’t keep up. Nightly jobs routinely exceeded the eight‑hour window—month‑end backups reached as long as 19 hours—causing occasional server performance issues and requiring daily tape transport offsite.
VSECU deployed an ExaGrid disk‑based backup appliance that integrates with their Symantec Backup Exec and uses post‑process deduplication and a modular GRID design. Backups that once took 13–19 hours now complete within the backup window (some reduced to as little as 36 minutes and typical long jobs down to about four hours), restores are much faster from disk, tape usage and offsite transport have been reduced, and overall data security, scalability and manageability have improved.
