University Avoids Forklift Upgrade by Installing Scalable ExaGrid System

Lynn University, a private non-profit in Boca Raton, needed more backup capacity and much better performance after its EMC Data Domain system ran out of space. The non‑scalable appliance would have required a costly forklift upgrade, backups were taking nearly 24 hours, and the university still relied on tape for offsite copies and disaster recovery.

Lynn installed a two‑site ExaGrid solution (EX13000 onsite, EX7000 in Atlanta) that works with Dell vRanger and Symantec Backup Exec. ExaGrid’s GRID architecture and post‑process deduplication write to a fast landing zone, replicate only changes to the DR site, and allow capacity to be added by attaching appliances. The result: backups dropped from ~24 hours to about 90 minutes, tape was largely eliminated, DR replication was automated, and future growth can be handled without forklift upgrades.
