Town of Greenwich Turns to Disk Backup With Deduplication for Faster, More Reliable Backups and Restores

The Town of Greenwich, Connecticut—a suburban municipality of about 61,000 residents—faced growing backup challenges as data volumes increased. Its nightly full backups to a dual tape library began running past the backup window, and restores could take 24+ hours because tapes had to be retrieved from offsite storage, creating risk and long delays.

Greenwich implemented an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance with byte-level deduplication that integrated with its existing CA ARCserve environment. The change cut backup times from roughly 18 hours to about five, reduced restores from 24+ hours to minutes, eliminated offsite tape retrievals, and delivered more reliable, easily accessible backups with responsive vendor support.
