Town of Brookline Reduces Dependence on Tape, Establishes a More Reliable Solution Using ExaGrid’s Disk-Based Backup System

The Town of Brookline, Massachusetts (about 57,000 residents) supports roughly 1,600 computers and 50 servers and had outgrown its tape and disk-to-tape backup approach for ~4TB of data. Weekly backups were slow (48+ hours), retention was limited, restores were painful, and the IT team needed a reliable, cost-effective solution that would work with their existing Symantec Backup Exec environment.

Brookline deployed ExaGrid’s disk-based, scale-out backup system, which integrated with Backup Exec and was up and running in under two hours. Backups are now about 70% faster (down to ~14 hours), restores that once took days complete in about 20 minutes, and daily reporting plus responsive support have greatly improved reliability and freed IT staff time.
