The Evidence for Disk-based Backup Points Straight to ExaGrid at Stradley Ronon

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young is a Philadelphia-based law firm with over 180 attorneys whose growing data needs — including large litigation files and video depositions — had stretched their tape-based backup process to eight+ hour nightly windows, using 14 tapes weekly and impacting users and IT staff. Facing scalability and operational costs, the firm sought a more efficient, cost-effective backup solution.

They deployed ExaGrid’s disk-based, byte-level de-duplication system (working with Symantec Backup Exec) to replace tape, cutting nightly backups from eight hours to under six, speeding restores to simple point-and-click operations, eliminating tape handling costs, and freeing IT time. The deduplication reduced storage needs significantly (reported at about 20:1) and lowered offsite bandwidth and overall backup costs, with a secondary ExaGrid at a remote office for streamlined disaster recovery.
