Suffolk Federal Credit Union Reduces Expenses, Long Backup Times with ExaGrid

Suffolk Federal Credit Union (SFCU) is a member-owned financial cooperative with over $800 million in assets, six branches and more than 60,000 members. The IT team was struggling with very long Windows backups (full backups often taking over a week), nightly backups exceeding windows, complex restores and rising tape costs and staff time devoted to backup management.

SFCU deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance that tightly integrates with Symantec Backup Exec and uses post-process deduplication (SQL dedupe as high as 28:1). The appliance was simple to install, enabled concurrent backups and fast restores, cut tape expenses and reduced backup-related staff time from about 15 hours a week to just a few hours, and will support automated nightly replication to a second site for improved disaster recovery and scalability.
