Springfield Clinic Chooses ExaGrid to Keep Pace with Growing Data Volumes and Retention Requirements

Springfield Clinic, a regional healthcare provider with more than 375 physicians serving nearly one million patients, needed to improve backup retention and reduce the hours staff spent managing tape-based backups to meet HIPAA requirements. Their tape solution only held about two months of data and full backups could take more than 48 hours, prompting a search for a more efficient, accessible system.

The clinic deployed ExaGrid appliances working with their existing CA ARCserve software, using post-process, zone-level deduplication and a GRID architecture for scalable performance. The ExaGrid system increased retention from 2 to about 12 months, cut backup times, enabled restores with just a few keystrokes, and achieved deduplication ratios up to 40:1 (storing ~331 TB in ~17.9 TB), while simplifying management and support.
