Southeastern Container Reduces Backup Window, Increases Capacity & Retention by Deploying ExaGrid’s Disk-Based Backup with Deduplication System

Southeastern Container, a PET-bottle manufacturer with ten locations serving Coca‑Cola bottlers, was backing up 5 TB of data to tape and struggling with a growing tape library, a weekly full backup that took nearly 36 hours, only two weeks of retention, and slow, unreliable restores. The IT team needed deduplication, faster recovery, and a solution that would work with their existing Symantec Backup Exec environment.

They deployed ExaGrid’s disk-based backup with byte-level deduplication and saw a 75% reduction in the full backup window (weekly full backups now about eight hours) and typical restores in one to two minutes. Deduplication ratios reached as high as 61:1 on SQL dumps (overall average 10.91:1), enabling much longer retention, quick installation (<40 minutes), and strong vendor support.
