A ExaGrid Case Study
Sommer, a four-generation German manufacturer of high-security aluminum and steel windows, facades, doors and gates with 450 employees, struggled to meet stringent industry backup, retention and restore requirements using tape. Restores were slow, tape management was cumbersome, and the company could not reliably demonstrate the mandated three-month retention, prompting IT to look for a disk-based alternative.
Sommer deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup system working with EMC NetWorker, using post-process deduplication (currently >16:1) to store three months of backups on-site while cloning deduplicated data to tape for archival. The result: backup windows cut in half, individual file restores in seconds, fast large restores and tape copies, reliable regulatory compliance, and improved operational efficiency supported by responsive ExaGrid customer service.
