SMF Energy Cuts Backup Times in Half with ExaGrid’s Disk Backup with Deduplication Appliance

SMF Energy Corporation, a provider of petroleum distribution, transportation logistics and emergency response services, was struggling to protect growing volumes of corporate data. Daily backups to tape and a temporary SAN were taking up to 26 hours, causing network slowdowns, capacity shortfalls and incomplete backups that threatened productivity and reliability.

SMF replaced tape with an ExaGrid disk backup appliance that integrates with Symantec Backup Exec and uses post-process deduplication and a scale-out GRID architecture. The new system delivered much faster, reliable backups and near‑instant restores, reduced daily backup management by about two hours, eliminated ongoing tape capacity problems and lowered tape costs while providing easy scalability and proactive vendor support.
