SIGMA Marketing Group, an integrated marketing services firm founded in 1985 that serves Fortune 1000 clients from Rochester, NY, was struggling with long backup windows and strict, client-specific retention requirements (some up to two years). Relying on a mix of tape and disk, IT could not complete nightly backups or meet retention goals, so the company sought a disk‑based alternative to replace its tape library.
SIGMA deployed ExaGrid’s disk‑based backup with post‑process deduplication integrated with Symantec Backup Exec. The system went live in under half a day, delivered very high dedupe ratios, and reduced the backup window by about one‑third so nightly jobs now complete and retention targets are met. When a storage array failed, SIGMA restored large amounts of data quickly from on‑site ExaGrid (accessing over 100 TB of recent data), and the solution’s scalability and strong support position them to handle future growth.
