A ExaGrid Case Study
SeaBright Insurance Company, a Seattle-based specialty workers’ compensation insurer, was struggling with a legacy backup system that couldn’t write to tape, couldn’t meet long-term retention requirements under Sarbanes-Oxley, and was difficult to scale or restore quickly enough to satisfy its 36-hour business continuity mandate.
SeaBright implemented a two-site ExaGrid system with Symantec Backup Exec, backing up locally in Scottsdale and replicating to an offsite ExaGrid in Austin over a DS3 link. The solution’s post-process deduplication and byte-level replication reduced storage needs and WAN traffic, enabled tape copies for long-term retention, allowed on-the-fly capacity expansion, and delivered faster, reliable backups—helping SeaBright meet compliance and recovery goals while lowering costs.
