School District Installs ExaGrid, Easily Scales System to Accommodate Data Growth

Jeffco Public Schools, the largest school district in Colorado serving more than 84,000 students across 145 schools, needed a more cost‑effective, scalable backup and disaster‑recovery solution. Their four‑year‑old IBM disk‑to‑tape system required expensive maintenance, produced long backup windows and slow restores, and relied on weekly tape shipments to an offsite DR location, leaving the district concerned about recovery time and ongoing operational costs.

Jeffco deployed a two‑site ExaGrid system (on‑site plus offsite) that works with their existing Symantec NetBackup, using post‑process deduplication and automatic nightly replication. The result: full backup windows cut by more than half (a 36‑hour reduction), near‑instant restores, lower media and maintenance costs, less staff time managing backups, and simple, GRID‑based scalability by adding appliance nodes as data grows.
