School District Chooses ExaGrid for Faster Backups, Restores, and DR

Rush-Henrietta Central School District, a public district near Rochester, NY serving nearly 6,000 students across multiple schools, faced a costly, time-consuming backup process using tape libraries in two datacenters. IT staff spent hours daily managing tapes and moving media between sites, which made restores and disaster recovery slow and labor-intensive.

The district deployed a two-site ExaGrid system (initial EX5000 appliances later expanded with EX10000E nodes) integrated with their Dell NetVault SmartDisk software. ExaGrid’s GRID architecture and post-process deduplication (about 10:1) enabled local backups with automatic cross-site replication, much faster restores, simpler scaling, and significantly reduced backup management time—eliminating tape handling and improving DR readiness with strong vendor support.
