Sarah Lawrence College cuts full backup time from 36 hours to 12 with ExaGrid

Sarah Lawrence College, a prestigious liberal arts college, was facing unacceptably long backup windows of up to 36 hours using a tape-based system. When planning a data center move to an offsite co-location facility, the IT team sought a faster, disk-to-disk solution that would reduce reliance on tape. They selected ExaGrid's tiered backup storage system to work with their existing Arcserve backup application.

The ExaGrid solution provided built-in data deduplication, which maximized storage efficiency and reduced energy usage. Implementing ExaGrid cut the college's weekly full backup time from 36 hours down to 12 hours and reduced nightly differential backups from six hours to under two. The system was also critical for a fast migration to the new data center and provided scalable, cost-effective capacity for future data growth.
