A ExaGrid Case Study
Samaritan Healthcare, a public hospital district in Moses Lake, WA, was struggling with a cumbersome tape-based backup environment that caused constant problems, long backup windows and slow, unreliable restores. The IT team needed a disk-based solution that would reduce storage needs, shorten nightly backups and improve disaster recovery.
They deployed a two-site ExaGrid system alongside Symantec Backup Exec, using ExaGrid’s post-process deduplication and replication so only changed data is stored and sent between sites. The result: nightly backups dropped from over eight hours to under one hour, restores became much faster and more reliable, tape handling was eliminated, and storage and bandwidth requirements were significantly reduced (dedupe ratios typically 10:1 to 50:1).
