Research Data Analysis (RDA) Group, a Bloomfield Hills–based market research firm serving the automotive industry since 1969, was growing increasingly concerned that tape-based backups left client data at risk and produced an “out of control” backup window that often took up to 24 hours. With disaster recovery and reliable nightly restores a top priority, RDA set out to add a disk-based layer of protection.

RDA deployed an ExaGrid system alongside its existing Symantec Backup Exec, using ExaGrid’s post-process, zone-level deduplication and landing-zone architecture to speed writes and minimize storage. The result: nightly backups that now finish in about an hour, automated tape copies, significant data reduction and storage savings, easy management, strong vendor support, and seamless scalability as data grows.
