Rite-Hite Chooses ExaGrid over Data Domain for Better Backup Performance

Rite‑Hite, a Milwaukee‑based global manufacturer of loading dock equipment and industrial doors with about 1,400 employees and 30+ locations, faced a fragmented backup environment that relied on disk-to-tape workflows without deduplication. Backups were slow, storage‑intensive, and error‑prone, SAN hardware was reaching end‑of‑life, retention on disk was limited to roughly two weeks, and restores often took a day or more.

Rite‑Hite deployed a two‑site ExaGrid system (integrated with CommVault Simpana) with automatic cross‑site replication and post‑process, zone‑level deduplication. The new solution enabled backups of 100% of servers, increased on‑disk retention from 14 to 45 days, cut restore times from a day+ to minutes, simplified management and reduced IT workload, and provided scalable, supported disaster‑recovery replication.
