Randolph Township Schools Opts for ExaGrid over Data Domain for Scalability

Randolph Township Schools, which serves more than 5,100 K–12 students across six schools, struggled with decentralized, inconsistent backups across ten buildings. Multiple devices and processes led to redundant, “mushrooming” data, limited retention, and significant daily management time as the IT staff worried about running out of storage and unreliable, inconsistent backups.

The district chose ExaGrid over EMC Data Domain and deployed an ExaGrid disk-based system that integrates with Symantec Backup Exec. ExaGrid’s GRID architecture lets the district scale capacity and performance by adding nodes without a forklift upgrade, and post-process deduplication (about 20:1) increased retention while reducing backup management from roughly three hours a day to almost none—enabling faster backups, easier restores, and planned offsite disaster recovery.
