Plastipak Gains Faster Backups and Restores with ExaGrid

Plastipak Packaging, a global manufacturer of rigid plastic containers with operations across the US, South America and Europe, was struggling with lengthy, unreliable tape backups at its Luxembourg datacenter. Daily full backups were taking in excess of eight hours, tape management was time-consuming, and restores were slow—prompting the company to seek a more efficient, cost-effective alternative.

Plastipak deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance integrated with its Veritas Backup Exec environment, cutting daily backup windows from over eight hours to about two hours and enabling near-instant restores. The system achieves nearly 30:1 data de-duplication, holds roughly 60 days of backups, supports efficient WAN replication and scalable growth, and eliminated much of the operational cost and complexity associated with tape.
