A ExaGrid Case Study
Objectivity, Inc., a Sunnyvale-based provider of distributed, real-time database solutions for government, security, manufacturing and engineering customers, was struggling with a first-generation disk-to-disk (D2D) solution plus tape. The legacy system was complex to manage, costly and limited to scale, required staff training, and could not easily back up VMware images or provide adequate retention.
Objectivity replaced the old D2D with an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance used with Symantec Backup Exec and AVVI; installation was quick, the interface intuitive, and post-process byte-level de-duplication runs transparently. The change increased retention from 2–3 weeks to over four weeks, sped backups and simplified administration, reduced WAN demands for planned site-to-site replication, and delivered an easily scalable solution that lowers tape reliance and improves disaster recovery.
