Oberg Industries, a diversified precision manufacturer with about 650 employees and plants in Pennsylvania, Mexico and Costa Rica, was struggling with slow, tape-based backups and time-consuming restores that often ran past nightly windows and were difficult to manage at remote sites. The IT team wanted faster backups and restores, reliable offsite replication for disaster recovery, and data deduplication to reduce storage and WAN usage.

Oberg deployed ExaGrid appliances at its Pittsburgh, Mexico and Costa Rica sites integrated with Symantec NetBackup, using post-process byte-level deduplication and nightly replication to the primary datacenter. The result: backups consistently finish within the window, restores are much faster and simpler, tape handling is eliminated, disk usage and WAN bandwidth are reduced, and IT now has automated offsite protection, easier administration and greater disaster-recovery confidence.
