NSM Insurance Stores 58TB of Data in 1.4TB of Disk Using ExaGrid and Veeam

NSM Insurance Group, a national specialty insurer and wholesale broker, faced rapidly growing data volumes after moving to virtualization. Backups to tape and then to a NAS with Veeam became slow and unreliable, with full backup windows stretching over a weekend and looming hardware upgrade decisions as data continued to explode.

The firm deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance alongside Veeam, using ExaGrid’s post-process deduplication and scalable GRID architecture. Results: 58.5 TB of logical data occupies just 1.375 TB of disk (dedupe up to 41:1 for SQL), eight months of retention, and weekly full backups cut from 60+ hours to about 17 hours—while management and scalability were greatly simplified.
