NCI Group Moves Away from Tape and Adds Data Capacity with ExaGrid’s Disk-Based Backup with Deduplication System

NCI Group, a U.S. construction-industry conglomerate with more than 70 sites and 5,000–6,000 end users, was overwhelmed by tape backups—managing roughly 5,200 tapes and shipping about 100 tapes weekly to an offsite vendor, which consumed significant time and complicated restores.

NCI deployed a two-site ExaGrid disk-based backup with post-process deduplication (50TB onsite, 40TB offsite) integrated with Symantec NetBackup and OST. The solution eliminated much of their tape use, cut management time and onsite trips, sped backups and restores, reduced storage needs by 10:1–50:1, provided seamless DR visibility and flexible retention, and delivered easy scalability plus dedicated support.
