Municipality Designs New Storage Strategy and Eliminates Tape, Chooses ExaGrid for Its Integration with Veeam

Gemeente Lingewaard, a municipality in the eastern Netherlands, was struggling with a tape-based D2D2T backup strategy for user data that required lengthy manual maintenance and could take days to fulfill restore requests. After moving storage to Atlantis USX and finding NDMP unsupported, the IT team evaluated Veeam with tape and then explored alternative appliances to reduce restore times and complexity.

They implemented an ExaGrid appliance integrated with Veeam (with ExaGrid support recommending targeting the first Veeam backup directly to ExaGrid before making copies), which significantly improved deduplication and eliminated the manual tape workflow. The new disk-based system delivers faster restores, remote management from the engineer’s desk, proactive vendor support, and scalable GRID growth — enabling the municipality to phase out tape and migrate all backups to ExaGrid.
