Movius cuts nightly backups from 12 to 4 hours with ExaGrid

Movius Interactive Corporation, a provider of mobile unified communications, faced significant challenges with its backup infrastructure. Their lengthy nightly and weekly backups were slowing down the network, and high tape storage costs were becoming a major aggravation. They needed a cost-effective solution to drastically cut backup times and allow for more data to be kept on site, leading them to partner with vendor ExaGrid and implement its disk-based backup system with data deduplication.

ExaGrid's solution worked seamlessly with Movius's existing backup applications, Veritas Backup Exec and Quest vRanger. The implementation resulted in dramatic improvements: nightly backups were reduced from 12 hours to 4 hours, and weekly full backups were cut from 48 hours to 16 hours. Furthermore, ExaGrid's efficient deduplication allowed Movius to house six months of data onsite and drastically reduced their reliance on tapes, saving both money and administrative time while securing their data.
