Military College Chooses ExaGrid over EMC Data Domain for Scalability and Price

Georgia Military College, a public institution with a junior college and a preparatory school, needed to upgrade its disk-based backups to add analytics, deduplication and—most importantly—reliable offsite replication. After evaluating options including EMC Data Domain, the college chose ExaGrid because it delivered the required backup performance and replication at a lower cost and offered tight integration with Veeam in its predominantly virtualized environment.

ExaGrid was deployed at the main campus to protect nearly 100 virtual machines with automatic nightly replication to a secondary site. ExaGrid’s zone-level post-process deduplication—working alongside Veeam—delivered an additional ~5:1 data reduction, faster backups and restores, simpler management and real-time reporting, and strong vendor support; the system also proved durable in transit and can scale easily via its GRID architecture to accommodate future campus growth.
