A ExaGrid Case Study
The University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences—an established medical school—faced lengthy, error-prone tape backups and complex restores that could take up to 56 hours and often required cycling through many tapes when drives failed. These reliability and performance issues prompted the school to seek a modern backup-to-disk solution.
They chose ExaGrid’s GRID-based, scale-out backup system (integrated with EMC NetWorker) and deployed a two-site setup for onsite backups and offsite disaster recovery. The result: backup windows dropped from 56 to 22 hours (most jobs now finish within eight hours), an overall deduplication ratio of about 35:1, rapid file restores in minutes, fast WebEx installation, and proactive, high-quality customer support.
