Manufacturer Modernizes Backups, Improves Retention and Backup Times with ExaGrid

NGK-Locke Polymer Insulators (NLPI), a Virginia Beach manufacturer of silicone polymer insulators, was struggling with a seven-year-old disk-based backup system that delivered only about one week of retention and frequently ran beyond backup windows, slowing the network. The single-site plant needed a cost-effective, disk-based solution that would work with its existing Windows 2003 environment and Symantec Backup Exec without requiring major infrastructure changes.

NLPI deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance with post-process data deduplication and GRID scalability, which integrated seamlessly with Backup Exec and was easy to set up. The change increased retention six-fold to six weeks, reduced backup windows from roughly 12 hours to about two hours, delivered overall deduplication ratios around 11:1 (up to 22:1 for some data), sped restores, and eliminated daytime network slowdowns.
