A ExaGrid Case Study
The Maine State Legislature, which supports critical applications for drafting and tracking legislation as well as standard office and email systems, was struggling with lengthy, unreliable tape backups that ran about 20 hours a day and left no window for restores or rerunning failed jobs. After considering replacing a tape library, IT evaluated disk-based alternatives and chose an ExaGrid system for its cost parity with tape and compatibility with their existing Symantec Backup Exec environment.
The ExaGrid appliance was integrated with Backup Exec, enabling more simultaneous backup streams, reducing the backup window to about eight hours, and improving restore speed and reliability while cutting reliance on tape. The deployment also delivered strong vendor support and scalable GRID architecture with deduplication, simplifying growth and ongoing management.
